CLUB HISTORY

I was sometime early 1994, Two entrepreneurs Mr. Tribhuvan Kapdi, Mr. Sanjeev Gandhi residing in Mira Road who traveled in the same train to their workplace were sharing their past when one day they discovered something common between them- Both of them had a tryst  with the Rotary movement in their earlier years. That is how the seeds of Rotary in Mira Road were sown.

Sponsored by Rotary Club of dahisar Coast ( now Mumbai Dahisar ) and moulded by GSR Dr. Chandrasherkar Joshi, the club was successfully chartered on March 30, 1995 at a glittering ceremony on 25th June 1995, The outgoing DG (Now Late) Dr. Madhukar Bhide along with DGN – 1995-96 Rtn Ramesh Khanna presented the charter to Charter President  Tribhuvan Kapdi.

By virtue of its goodwill, the club managed to raise Rs.1.25 lacs to fund it’s projects, even before the presentation of the charter. With extremely humble beginnings, the club today carries out activities and projects of various magnitudes targeted at various sections of the society. While some projects are carried out to meet specific needs of the time , several other projects have become and on going affair with fair amount of improvisation every year. Each President with his ingenuity and innovation has added immense value to the club every year.

Every year , Mira Road looks forward to activities like Students Felicitation Awards, Elocution competition, Vocational Excellence Awards, Health & Medical Camps etc. that have become a hallmark of the club. The Club’s unique efforts for the Pulse Polio Immunisation and its role in inititatiing malaria Eradication have earned great respect  from the community. Joint programs with other organizations such as Bhakti Vedanta Hospital, Green Court Culb etc. have helped the club conduct meaningful programs that have enabled us to further our reach and in turn win excellent service partners. Welfare of the Adopted Gujarati School is a pet project of the club and the fruits of adoption are distinctly visible if one looks at the transformation of the school over the past ten years.

Our Club has made significant contributions to the Rotary Foundation and today, the club has 9 Paul Harris Fellows and 14 Paul Harris Sustaining Members.

The clubs activities are being effectively communicated in the District and community by our mouthpiece and     E Bulletin « GOODWILL », which has managed to create a unique niche for itself and is being published again.

Over the years the number of members being assigned District responsibilities is on the rise. Our Club is a respected identity in District 3140 (now 3141) and even beyond. Several of our members have beeen guest speakers at  other clubs and District porgrams. The crowning glory has been Rtn Deepak Chawla who led the District GSE team to District 7300, Pittsburgh, USA in the year 2000 and the Asst Governor for the year 2005 – 2006.

Fellowship and Family participation have been the key drivers for our  club’s quest. Quite a bit has been accomplished by our club and a lot remains to be accomplished. Rotary Club of Mira Road is on the threshold of 28 years of meaningful  existence when Rotary International completed Hundred and Eleven years of existence.
